About Al

Get to know your MP

Al is a family man originally from Scotland, now living with his wife and two sons in the Heatherside district of Surrey Heath.

He was an Associate Professor at Royal Holloway, University of London, with research interests in geopolitics, development, security, and justice issues. He also has a strong interest in the effects of climate change and its impacts at both national and international levels.

"For me, standing for Parliament is about serving the interests of my community, my constituency, and my country. That means working together across the political spectrum to share the very best ideas, think and plan for the long term, and act justly in the pursuit of a liberal, open, tolerant, accountable, internationalist, and successful United Kingdom."

Elected as our MP in July 2024, Al is a local champion, campaigning for the constituents of Surrey Heath both locally and in Westminster. His priorities have focused on addressing the cost-of-living crisis, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), fixing Frimley Park Hospital, and improving public transport infrastructure.
